CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard men's lacrosse first-year Austin Madronic has been named the Ivy League Rookie of the Week for his performance in the Crimson's season-opening game at nationally ranked North Carolina this past Saturday.
A native of Victoria, British Columbia, Madronic tallied three goals and led the team with three assists and six points against the No. 12/14 Tar Heels. The freshman also added a Crimson-best 10 shots and six shots on goal (tied with Ryan Graff) to go with one ground ball.
Madronic's three goals were the most by a Harvard first-year in a season-opening game since Graff had three in the first game of 2017. His three assists, meanwhile, were the most by a Crimson freshman since Devin Dwyer accomplished the feat vs. Yale on April 27, 2013.
More impressive was Madronic's six points. His point total was the most by a Harvard freshman in a season-opening game since at least 2008, and the most since Dwyer had six on April 9, 2013, vs. Quinnipiac. Lastly, his six-point performance was the most by a Harvard player in a season-opener since 2017 (Morgan Cheek – 7).
The Crimson (0-1) returns to action on Saturday afternoon when it plays host to Massachusetts at Jordan Field. Opening draw is set for 1 p.m. with the contest airing on ESPN+.
