Cheek earns his first career weekly award from the conference office (Gil Talbot).
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Sophomore Morgan Cheek has been named the Ivy League Player of the Week, conference officials announced Tuesday.
Cheek scored the game-winner in overtime on Saturday to lift Harvard to a 13-12 victory over Villanova in both team's season opener. The goal came just 1:27 into the extra session off a restart, with Cheek dodging from behind the net and beating the Wildcat goaltender for his third score of the day.
The hat trick was just the second of Cheek's career and marked the third straight game he has scored at least one goal dating back to last season. As a freshman the Wellesley, Massachusetts native totaled 14 points on seven goals and seven assists.
Harvard is back in action this afternoon as it takes on Holy Cross at 4 p.m. at Jordan Field. The game will be broadcast live on the Ivy League Digital Network.
