CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Senior attackman Dean Gibbons of the Harvard men’s lacrosse team has been tabbed to the 2011 Tewaaraton Award Watch List, the Greater Washington Sports Alliance announced Friday. Gibbons is included in a list of 50 men made up of the top lacrosse players across all three divisions of collegiate lacrosse and highlights the early hopefuls for the 2011 Tewaaraton Award honors.
Gibbons, a co-captain from Garden City, N.Y., leads Harvard in scoring this season with three goals, as he recorded a hat trick in the Crimson’s 9-7 win over Canisius in the season opener Feb. 26. He also collected a career-high five ground balls in the victory.
An Inside Lacrosse Preseason All-America honorable mention choice, Gibbons earned United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) All-America honorable mention, as well as All-Ivy League and New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (NEILA) second-team honors last season after pacing Harvard with 41 points on 27 goals and 14 assists. Gibbons, who tallied six man-up goals as a junior, also finished second in the Ivy League in scoring in 2010.
As a sophomore, Gibbons earned All-Ivy honorable mention, tallying 21 goals, and finished second on the Crimson with 14 goals as a rookie during the 2008 campaign. Gibbons has netted 65 goals in his career, while amassing 99 points.
