Fast Start Helps Men's Ice Hockey Earn 2-1 Win at Colgate

Jack Rathbone (assist) set up Colton Kerfoot's deciding goal in Harvard's 2-1 win at Colgate.

A fast start and timely saves by senior goaltender Michael Lackey (29 saves) helped Harvard men's ice hockey (8-6-3, 5-5-2 ECAC Hockey) earn a 2-1 win at Colgate (6-14-2, 3-5-2 ECAC Hockey) on Saturday afternoon at Class of 1965 Arena.

First-year forward Jack Drury scored a power play goal at 2:50 of the opening period, and junior forward Colton Kerfoot added a second period goal that proved to be the difference.

Holding a one-goal lead with just over a minute to play, Harvard killed off 1:14 of power play time for the home team to seal the win, with Lackey making several key stops late.

Drury got Harvard on the board as the Crimson converted an early power play chance in the opening period. After a faceoff win, defenseman Adam Fox fired a shot on net from straightaway, and Drury tipped the puck past Benson at 2:50.

The Crimson had several great scoring chances throughout the second period, and converted on one of them midway through the frame to take a two goal lead. Kerfoot put the Crimson up 2-0 as first-year Jack Rathbone's shot from the point deflected off his skate at 11:56 of the second period.

At the other end, Lackey continued his impressive play of late, stopping a chance from Colgate's John Snodgrass from in close at the 17:00 mark of the middle frame to keep Harvard's lead at two heading into the break.

The Raiders got one back to make it a one-goal game at 11:56 of the third period, with Willie Brooks scoring for Colgate. But Harvard held off the home team the rest of the way.
