Ryan Donato Named 2018 Hobey Baker Award Hat Trick Finalist

Ryan Donato was named a Hobey Hat Trick finalist, the eighth time in Harvard Hockey history that a student-athlete has been a finalist for college hockey's most prestigious award. 

CAMBRIDGE, MASS -
 Junior forward Ryan Donato has been selected as one of three finalists for the 2018 Hobey Baker Memorial Award, the organization announced Thursday (March 30). This marks the eighth time in program history that Harvard has had a Hobey Baker Hat Trick finalist and the third time in the last four seasons that a Harvard student-athlete has been considered among the final three candidates for college hockey's highest honor.

Donato was named a Hobey Baker Hat Trick finalist along with Henrik Borgström (Denver) and Adam Gaudette (Northeastern).

A native of Scituate, Mass., Donato was the ECAC Hockey Player of the Year after a fantastic season for Harvard. He became the 32nd player in program history to top the 100-point mark, finishing his Crimson career with 104 points (60 goals, 44 assists) in 97 games played. Donato had 43 points (26 goals, 17 assists) in 2017-18, leading the Crimson in scoring. A First Team All-ECAC Hockey and First Team All-Ivy selection, Donato led the nation with an average of .90 goals per game and had a conference-leading .89 points per game in ECAC Hockey contests. He played for the U.S. men's ice hockey team at the 2018 Winter Olympics, leading the team with six points (five goals, assist) before returning to complete the season at Harvard. He signed a professional contract with his hometown team, the Boston Bruins, and has five points (three goals, two assists) in his first five games with the club>

Off the ice, Donato participated in the team's annual One Summit Learn to Skate event. One Summit is an organization that helps children battling cancer build confidence and courage through a partnership with a Navy SEAL. He has also been involved in the team's volunteer work at the Cristo Rey Boston school in Dorchester, where the team spends a day cleaning up and preparing the school for the academic year.

The winner of the 2018 Hobey Baker Memorial Award will be announced Friday, April 8 from the Roy Wilkens Auditorium in St. Paul, MN with the announcement airing on the NHL Network.
