Merrick Madsen will begin his professional career with the Arizona Coyotes.
Arizona Coyotes Press Release
GLENDALE, Ariz. – Senior goaltender and captain Merrick Madsen has signed a two-year entry-level contract with the Arizona Coyotes, the team announced today (March 20).
Madsen etched his name in the Harvard record books as one of the greatest goaltenders in program history. A Second Team All-Ivy selection, Madsen had three shutouts (Dartmouth, Brown, Rensselaer) in 23 starts this season bringing his career total to 10 (2nd in Harvard history). With 28 wins last season, he had the most wins by a Harvard goaltender in a single season, passing Grant Blair '86, who had 24 in 1985-86.
Madsen leaves Harvard as one of the program's greatest goaltenders. He finishes his Crimson career third on the all-time wins list (56), and moved into sole possession of third with his 50th career win against Rensselaer on Jan. 5. The Acton, Calif. native is fifth on the career goals-against average list (2.12), and first on the career save percentage list (.924).
Madsen was initially selected in the sixth round (162nd overall) of the 2013 NHL Entry Draft by the Philadelphia Flyers and had his rights traded to Arizona in June 2017.
