CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Freshman forward Jack Badini, sophomore defenseman Adam Fox and freshman defenseman Reilly Walsh were selected to the U.S. National Junior Team Pre-Tournament training camp, which convene at Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio from Dec. 15-19. The camp will help USA Hockey determine its roster for the 2018 IIHF World Junior Championships, which will take place in Buffalo and will run from Dec. 26-Jan. 5.
Team USA will play pre-tournament games against Belarus on Dec. 20 in Jamestown, New York and then against Sweden on Dec. 22 in Erie, Pennsylvania. The final roster will be announced by Dec. 23. Tournament play will begin Dec. 26 when the U.S. faces off with Denmark.
Fox was one of 23 selected to represent the U.S. at the 2017 IIHF World Junior Championships. Fox and the Americans went 7-0 and captured gold with a shootout victory over host Canada. Fox was tremendous in the final game, dishing out three assists, including one on the game-tying goal. Team USA has won 10 medals at the World Junior Championships including four golds (2004, 2010, 2013, 2017).
Fox (nine assists), Badini (three goals, three assists) and Walsh (three goals, five assists) are off to strong starts for Harvard, helping the Crimson go unbeaten in its last three games (2-0-1) heading into the holiday break.
Bob Motzko who guided Team USA to its fourth-ever gold medal at the 2017 IIHF World Junior Championship in Montreal and Toronto, Canada, is returning as head coach for the 2018 U.S. National Junior Team.
Team USA will play its preliminary-round games against Denmark, Slovakia, Canada and Finland. Quarterfinals will be split between the KeyBank Center and HarborCenter. Tournament games will air on the NHL Network.
