CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Freshman defenseman Reilly Walsh was named ECAC Hockey Rookie of the Week, the league announced today (Nov. 7).
Walsh had a three-point weekend (two goals, assist) in Harvard's games against Yale and Brown. Walsh notched an assist against the Bulldogs on Friday night, then against Brown became first Harvard freshman to score twice in a game since Nathan Krusko had a hat trick on Jan. 6 in a 5-2 win over Quinnipiac.
Walsh scored twice on the power play against the Bears, the first coming on a quick wrist shot from the left circle at :56 of the second period to give Harvard a 1-0 lead. Then Walsh added his second goal of the night on a one-timer from a similar spot at 13:35 of the third period to put the Crimson up 2-0.
A native of North Falmouth, Mass., Walsh is also the first freshman defenseman to score twice in a game for Harvard since Alex Biega scored two goals in a game at Brown on Feb. 17, 2007.
Harvard hits the road for a pair of league contests, starting with a Friday night (Nov. 10) game at Colgate with puck drop scheduled for 7 p.m.
