Twelve current and former Harvard men's hockey players were invited to participate in NHL development camps this summer. A number of the players wrote about their experience at the camp they attended and our first check-in comes from John Marino, a freshman from North Easton, Massachusetts (photo courtesy John Marino).
This year I attended the Edmonton Oilers development camp as it was my second year from when I was drafted in 2015 in the sixth round. It was located in Jasper, which is up in the mountains of the Canadian Rockies and was an unbelievable experience with the scenic view. Over the seven-day period (July 1-8) we were there we were put through physical testing on the first day and then had intense practices for the next five days. On the second to last day we played in a 5-5 game for 30 minutes and then 4-4 and 3-3 for the next 30. This camp included a majority of college players as the tempo was high paced throughout the games. I look forward to coming back to camp next year and improving on my game with Harvard this year.
