Vesey Selected as Hobey Baker Award Top 10 Finalist

Jimmy Vesey was a 2015 Hobey Hat Trick Finalist (Gil Talbot).

ST. PAUL, Minn. – Senior forward Jimmy Vesey has been selected as one of the 10 finalists for the Hobey Baker Award, as announced by the award's committee Wednesday, March 16. This is the second-straight year Vesey has been named a top-10 finalist, after being a runner-up for the award last year.

Vesey, a co-captain this season for the Crimson, has been one of the nation's most prolific scorers over the last two years. This season, he ranks third in the nation in goals per game at 0.77 and is ranked fifth in points per game at 1.47.

Vesey dominated ECAC competition this season, ranking first in points and goals, while finishing second in assists to teammate Alexander Kerfoot. The North Reading, Massachusetts native scored 17 goals and 32 points against conference opponents. Four of his five game-winning goals, which is the 11th-most in the country, came against ECAC foes, helping lead the Crimson to Lake Placid and the ECAC Hockey Tournament semifinals this weekend.

The Ivy League recognized Vesey as its Player of the Year for the second time earlier this month after he led the Crimson to its first Ancient Eight title in 10 years. He is the 2015 Ivy League and ECAC Player of the Year, as well as Walter Brown Award winner. Vesey is a 2016 finalist for the Senior CLASS Award and, for the fourth time in his career, is a semifinalist for the Walter Brown Award.

Over the last two seasons, Vesey has been the top scorer in the nation, racking up 55 goals in that span. He ranks fifth all-time on the Harvard career scoring list with 79 goals and is 13th in points with 142. He is two shy of tying current Robert D. Ziff '88 Head Coach for Harvard Men's Ice Hockey and former Crimson skater, Ted Donato '91, for 12th.

The ten Hobey finalists were selected by voting from all 60 Division I college hockey head coaches and by online fan balloting. Next, the 27-member Selection Committee and an additional round of fan balloting through the Hobey Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/TheHobey/ or the Hobey website at www.hobeybakeraward.com from March 17-27 will determine this year's Hobey Baker winner. Criteria for the award include: displaying outstanding skills in all phases of the game, strength of character on and off the ice, sportsmanship and scholastic achievements.

The Hobey Hat Trick (three finalists) will be announced on March 31, 2016 and the Hobey Baker Award winner will be announced Friday, April 8, 2016 from Tampa, Florida during the NCAA Frozen Four. The award announcement will take place at the historic Tampa Theatre, built in 1926 as one of America's most elaborate movie palaces. The announcement will be televised live on the NHL Network and can be followed on the Hobey Baker website at 6:00 p.m. ET.
