EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. – Harvard sophomore goaltender Merrick Madsen has been announced as one of the 26 nominees for the Mike Richter Award for the most outstanding goaltender in NCAA men's hockey. The nominees were announced Friday by Let's Play Hockey and the Herb Brooks Foundation and the winner will be announced at the Frozen Four in Tampa, Florida in April.
Madsen enters the final weekend of the season among the nation's best in goals-against average and save percentage. His GAA of 1.99 ranks ninth, while his .930 save mark is good for 13th in the country. Among his 14 wins this season, four have come via shutout, tied for eighth-most nationally.
Madsen and the Crimson conclude the regular season at Clarkson Friday night and St. Lawrence Saturday.
