COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Harvard men's hockey rookie forward Jimmy Vesey has been named to the U.S. National Junior Team preliminary roster, USA Hockey announced Tuesday morning. Vesey is one of three ECAC Hockey players to be named to the prestigious squad.
Vesey was one of three Harvard players to attend the U.S. National Junior Evaluation Camp Aug. 4-11 in Lake Placid, N.Y., along with classmate Brian Hart and sophomore Colin Blackwell. Vesey made the final camp roster and finished the event with two points in three games on a goal and an assist. The North Reading, Mass., native helped his cause with a promising start to his collegiate career, as he leads Harvard in points (eight) and goals (five) and ranks in the top 10 nationally in goals per game (0.71) and points per game among rookies (1.14).
The 27-player preliminary roster will attend a training camp Dec. 16-18 at the New York Rangers' Madison Square Garden Training Center in Tarrytown, N.Y., with an additional camp being held days later in Helsinki, Finland. The final roster will be comprised of 23 players and will be finalized Dec. 23. The squad is set to compete in the IIHF World Junior Championship Dec. 26, 2012- Jan. 5, 2013 in Ufa, Russia.
U.S. Junior National head coach Phil Housley and team general manager Jim Johannson will be available for comment in an 11 a.m. press conference, hosted by USA Hockey.
