CAMBRIDGE, Mass.—Ryan Grimshaw signed for
an amateur tryout with the Rochester Americans of the American
Hockey League Saturday and is one of four Harvard seniors to play
for a professional team since the conclusion of the Crimson
men’s hockey team’s season last month.
Grimshaw, who served as the 119th captain of Harvard men’s
hockey this season, made his debut with the Americans Saturday
night and made another appearance Tuesday night. The Rochester
native owns a +3 rating through two games with his hometown
team.
Former Crimson forward Alex Killorn is also playing in the AHL,
with the Norfolk Admirals. He has registered four points and a +5
rating in seven games to help the Admirals to extend their winning
streak to 25 games, a North American pro hockey record.
Two other members of the Class of 2012, both forwards, have
already seen professional action. Eric Kroshus skated in three
regular-season games and has played in three playoff games for the
Wheeling Nailers of the East Coast Hockey League. Daniel Moriarty
has skated in two games for the Evansville Icemen of the Central
Hockey League.
Before joining Rochester, Grimshaw also played in the ECHL,
suiting up for three games with the Trenton Titans. One of his
Rochester teammates is former Crimson teammate and fellow
defenseman Alex Biega ’10, also a former Harvard captain.
Biega serves as an assistant captain of the Americans.
Harvard finished the season ranked 18th in the USCHO.com national
poll after finishing second in the ECAC Hockey Championship and
third in the ECAC regular-season standings with an 8-5-9 league
record. The Crimson was 13-10-11 overall, setting an NCAA record
for ties in a season.
