CAMBRIDGE, Mass.—U.S. College Hockey Online is the latest national media outlet to recognize the stellar recent play of defenseman Danny Biega and the Harvard men’s hockey team.

USCHO has named Biega its national third star for the past week, including the Crimson’s road wins against Ivy League rivals Cornell and Brown. Biega scored the game-winning goals in each of those victories and tallied in Harvard’s 2-1 loss Saturday at Colgate. He added three assists to total six points in those three games.

Maine’s Dan Sullivan, who posted back-to-back shutouts of UMass Lowell, was USCHO’s first star. Carl Hagelin of Michigan earned second-star honors by scoring to force overtime and again to win the game in the extra session against Western Michigan.

Biega has racked up four goals and six assists during a five-game point streak coinciding with Harvard’s current run of three wins and a tie in its last five games. He was also selected the USCHO ECAC Hockey blog’s player of the week Wednesday, while senior Ryan Carroll was USCHO’s pick for the top ECAC goaltender of the last seven days. Carroll made 27 saves in the 4-3 win at Cornell and stopped 40 of Brown’s 41 shots in the 2-1 victory at Brown.

The USCHO ECAC blog recognized Alex Killorn last week after the junior forward notched three goals and two assists in Harvard’s 4-4 tie against No. 20 Princeton and 5-4 defeat of No. 15 Boston University.

The Parting Schotts blog from The Daily Gazette of Schenectady, N.Y., selected Biega as its player of the week Monday. The sophomore paces Harvard with 25 points and 15 assists. He leads ECAC defensemen with nine goals and 21 points in league play.
