Dershwitz, Zhao Named Captains for 2017-18 Campaign

Zhao will enter his second year in the leadership role (Gil Talbot).

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Senior Eric Zhao and junior Eli Dershwitz have been chosen by their teammates as the Harvard men's fencing captains for the 2017-18 season.

Zhao will serve as captain for a second-time. The Potomac, Maryland native was named to the second team All-Ivy after finishing sixth at the Ivy League Championships with seven wins. Zhao capped his junior season with a 41-35 overall record, and finished 12th at the NCAA Regionals.
 
Dershwitz claimed his first national title, winning the men's sabre category at the NCAA Championships. He is the first men's fencing team member to clinch an individual title since 2007, when Tim Hagamen '07 earned the same honor. Dershwitz earned his second All-America first team honors with the victory.  The Sherborn, Massachusetts native tallied a 69-10 overall record for the 2016-17 season. Dershwitz registered a 22-1 record at the NCAA Regionals tournament.
 
The men's fencing team completed its tenure at the NCAA Championships, helping the Crimson finish fifth as a team at the two-day event. Harvard clinched its highest placement at the NCAA Championships since the 2013-14 season.
