
WORCESTER, Mass. – The No. 4 Harvard men's lightweight crew team posted a fourth-place finish in the Jobe Cup team standings, as well as the varsity eight competition at the 2018 Eastern Sprints Championship on Lake Quisigamond in Worcester, Massachusetts Sunday.
The Crimson's top finish of the day was produced by the fifth varsity eight, which placed second, two seconds shy of Navy.
Harvard first varsity eight boat did battle against four other Ivy schools and Navy with all crews finishing within eight seconds of each other. The Crimson (6:14.854) raced its way to fourth, trailing Penn for third by one second and Princeton for second by three ticks. Columbia won the event. Harvard placed second in its morning heat, trailing only the Lions.
Harvard's second varsity eight reached the afternoon's grand final with a runner-up showing in the first heat. In the grand final, the Crimson took sixth with a time of 6:04.458, just off the mark of Yale for fifth. Columbia took the spot in the race.
The Crimson's third varsity eight earned itself a third-place finish in both its morning heat and the grand final. Harvard engaged in a very close race with Princeton and Navy in the grand final, but the Tigers were able to cross the line first, followed by the Midshipmen and then the Crimson just 0.147 behind them in 6:02.178.
The fourth varsity eight placed fourth in early afternoon racing with Princeton placing first, followed by Navy and Yale.
