No. 4 Men’s Lightweight Crew Stakes Claim for Jope Cup Sunday

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The No. 4 Harvard men's lightweight crew team, the reigning Jope Cup champion, will look to repeat its title Sunday when it hits the water for the 2018 Eastern Sprints Championships at Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Massachusetts. This is the 62nd staging of this event.

SCOUTING THE FIELD
Harvard's varsity eight is ranked No. 4 in the latest US Rowing Coaches poll and will be the four-seed at the Sprints. Columbia is the top-ranked crew, followed by Princeton and Yale. Harvard is also ranked fourth in the second varsity eight with Columbia holding the top spot. The Crimson's third varsity is ranked fifth with Princeton topping that field. Navy is the first-ranked fourth varsity eight, while Harvard is fourth. The Crimson's fifth varsity eight tops the seedings ahead of Navy and Princeton.

JOPE CUP SUCCESS
Harvard, the defending Jope Cup champion, has hoisted the trophy more than any other crew. Harvard has 22 Jope titles in program history.

LAST TIME OUT
Harvard suffered its first losses of the season April 28, falling in its dual season finale to Yale and Princeton. The Crimson's fifth varsity won its race against the Tigers.

Harvard will turn its attention to the IRA National Championships at Mercer Lake, New Jersey, June 1-3.
