No. 1 Men’s Lightweight Crew Suffers First Loss at Goldthwait, Vogel Cups

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The No. 1 Harvard men's lightweight crew suffered their first loss of the season Saturday in Derby, Connecticut, falling to No. 5 Princeton and No. 4 Yale on the Housatonic River. Princeton won the varsity eight race and the points title with 39 to earn the Goldthwait and Vogel Cups. 

Yale place second in the Vogel Cup with 28 points and Harvard tallied 25. 

The first varsity eight race was a tight competition over the 2,000 meters, but Princeton pulled ahead over the final 500 meters to edge Yale by 1.2 seconds at the flag. Harvard placed third in 5:48.97.

The second varsity eight saw the Crimson place runner-up trailing Princeton at the finish by just under four seconds with a time of 5:47.11. Harvard's lone victory of the day came in the fifth varsity race where the Crimson won by a lengthy margin over the Tigers with a 5:55.0.
