No. 2 Men’s Lightweight Crew Hoists Biglin Bowl, Tops No. 9 Dartmouth and No. 12 MIT

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – No. 2 Harvard men's lightweight crew remained unbeaten this season with a victory Saturday morning on the Charles River in the Biglin Bowl regatta. Hosting No. 9 Dartmouth and No. 12 MIT, the Crimson won all three races staged to move to 6-0 this season in head-to-head competition.

Harvard has won every Biglin Bowl since 2009 and 55 total in the history of the event.

Condition early on the Charles featured a rising sun and temperatures ascending through the 40s. There was an east, northeast wind (tail) that fluctuated between five and 10 miles per hour, creating good racing conditions for the Biglin Bowl.

Capping an exciting morning for the Crimson, the first varsity took its first stroke at 8:30 a.m. and proceeded to pull away from its Dartmouth and MIT counterparts over the 2,000-meter course. The Big Green and Engineers proved to be no match for the strong varsity eight, as the Crimson eased to an eight-second victory with a mark of 5:45.126.

Harvard's second varsity eight posted a 10-second triumph in its race, clocking in at 5:59.500. The third varsity race saw the Crimson earn the top-three spots to begin the morning of racing. Harvard's third varsity eight punched in at 5:59.283, followed by the fourth varsity and then fifth varsity, all ahead of Dartmouth.

Harvard will battle for the Haines Cup next weekend, challenging Navy and Delaware in Annapolis, Maryland.
