No. 4 Men’s Lightweight Crew Captures Wales-Kirrane Cup

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The fourth-ranked Harvard men's lightweight crew team completed an impressive weekend, topping No. 3 Columbia and No. 11 Georgetown to earn the Wales-Kirrane Cup Sunday on the Charles River. The victory comes one day after the Crimson defeated No. 1 Cornell.

Conditions primarily featured a cross wind from Cambridge side, shifting occasionally to cross tail with flat water. The order of racing was 3V, 2V, 1V.

The varsity eight put together a complete race, pulling away from the Lions to create a slight open water margin at the finish line. The Crimson clocked in a 5:53.0, three seconds ahead of Columbia and 13 ticks in front of Georgetown.

Harvard's third varsity began the day with a triumph in the combo race. The Crimson posted a 6:09.7, besting the Lions by over five seconds. Harvard's fourth varsity placed third, beating Georgetown for that spot by 0.9 seconds. The second varsity race was closely contested over the 2,000 meters, but Columbia was able to earn the one-second win.
