CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Three of Harvard lightweight crew's varsity boats earned victories over Delaware Saturday morning on the Charles River in the first competitive action of the spring season.
The Crimson kicked off the regatta by going 1-2 in the third varsity eights race. Harvard's 'A' boat finished in 7:23.2, 11.4 seconds ahead its 'B' boat and 22.6 seconds faster than Delaware's third varsity. The Blue Hens clipped Harvard in the next race, the first freshman four, but the Crimson rebounded with victories in the second varsity and first varsity events.
Harvard's second varsity eight rowed the course in 6:23.8 and won by 21.1 seconds, before making way for the varsity eight. The Crimson's best boat navigated to the finish line in 6:08.4, well ahead of Delaware's 6:24.9 pace.
In the final event, Delaware edged Harvard's second freshman four by less than four second, 6:45.5 to 6:49.4.
