PRINCETON, N.J. – Continuing action at the IRA National Championships, No. 4 men's heavyweight crew qualified all three of its varsity eights for the grand finals, while the varsity four will be placed in the petite final.
The varsity eight finished second in its semifinal with a time of 5:41.825, trailing Yale but beating Princeton, Syracuse, Dartmouth and Boston University. The Crimson is the fourth seed in the grand final, where it will compete against Washington, Yale, Brown, California and Princeton. The varsity eight is looking to medal for the second-straight season.
The second varsity earned a similar result, earning the fourth seed in the grand final with a time of 5:51.286. Harvard crossed the finish line just behind Yale in its semifinal, and will take on the Bulldogs, California, Washington, Princeton and Northeastern in the grand final.
The third varsity rowed to victory in its semifinal heat, crossing the finish line in 5:52.615. The team was 2.5 seconds ahead of Boston University, with Yale, Dartmouth, Syracuse and Cornell following. The third varsity is the second seed in the grand final, trailing only Washington.
The varsity four was neck-and-neck with Princeton for third place in its semifinal heat, finishing just .047 seconds behind the Tigers with a mark of 6:36.107. Harvard will race in the petite final.
The team concludes action at the regatta Sunday, with all races set to be broadcast on YouTube.
