No. 5 Men’s Heavyweight Crew Claims Third in Rowe Cup at Eastern Sprints

WORCESTER, Mass. – The No. 5 Harvard men's heavyweight crew finished in third place for the Rowe Cup as a team, while the first varsity eight took silver in the grand final at the 2018 Eastern Sprints Championships on Lake Quisigamond in Worcester, Massachusetts Sunday.

The final race of the day did not disappoint in excitement, with the top four crews in the first varsity eight grand final were separated by only four seconds and the teams finishing second, third and fourth were all within 0.8 seconds of each other. The Crimson used a final push at the flag to grab second-place honors in 5:58.072, eclipsing Brown and Princeton. Yale took the gold medal.

Harvard's fourth varsity also produced a silver-medal showing. The Crimson reached the flags in 5:58.037, beating Yale to end, but coming up just shy of Princeton.

Harvard's third varsity eight earned the bronze medal in its competition. After winning its morning heat, the Crimson went on to record a 5:54.422 in the grand final, finishing ahead of Boston University. Yale and Princeton took the top two spots. 

The Crimson's second varsity eight and fifth varsity eight each turned in sixth-place showing in their respective grand finals.
