CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Wrapping competition on the Charles River, No. 5 Harvard men's heavyweight crew lines up against No. 9 Northeastern Saturday, April 30. Racing starts at 7:12 a.m. with the fourth varsity and will be streamed live on the Ivy League Digital Network. The varsity eight will be in search of the Smith Cup at 8:24 a.m.

In the Polls
The Crimson ranks 5 in this week's USRowing collegiate poll after winning the Adams Cup over Penn and Navy a week ago. Yale holds the No. 1 slot, followed by Cal, Princeton, and Washington.

Last Year
Harvard went 6-2 last season and finished fifth at both the Eastern Sprints and IRA National Championships.

Scouting Northeastern
The Huskies opened their season with a win over Penn, before falling to BU and Brown in back-to-back weeks. Head coach John Pojednic is in his 16th season in the Northeastern launch. He owns a 64-42 regular season record with six appearances in the IRA grand final.

The Charlie Smith Cup
Winners of 24 Smith Cups, including 18-straight, Harvard has won 33 of 36 races in the series against Northeastern. Starting in 1989, the trophy is named for Charlie Smith, a boatman at Harvard for 10 years and at Northeastern for five.

In the Launch
Charley Butt, the Bolles-Parker Head Coach for Harvard Men's Heavyweight Crew, is in the midst of his 31st season with the Harvard rowing program and third with the heavyweight men in 2015-16.
