PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The No. 6 Harvard men's heavyweight crew varsity eight bested No. 5 Brown by two seats Saturday morning on the Seekonk River.
It was a close day of racing for all crews, as the Crimson earned the Stein Cup for the sixth-straight year. The conditions were fair, with a incoming tide and a light tailwind, changing to a light headwind during the varsity event. Harvard boasts a 43-9 all-time lead over the Bears with the win today.
The Crimson V8 clocked a time of 5:35.8 to finish 0.6 of a second ahead of the Bears.
The second varsity boat defeated Brown by just over three seconds. Harvard crossed in 5:41.8, while Brown was a length behind in 5:44.7. The third varsity race went to Brown, who finished three seats ahead of the Crimson with a time of 5:47.3. The Crimson stopped the clock at 5:48.2.
Harvard got the best of the Bears in the fourth varsity event, posting a length victory with a time of 6:04.6.
Brown wrapped the day with an open water win over Harvard in the varsity four race. The Bears posted a time of 6:56.5.
Harvard opens a three-week stint on the Charles River with Princeton and MIT next Saturday. The Crimson will be in search of the Compton Cup live on the Ivy League Digital Network.
