WEST WINDSOR, N.J. – The Harvard heavyweight varsity eight wrapped a weekend of racing at the IRA National Championships Sunday at Mercer Lake in West Windsor, New Jersey. The varsity eight finished fifth in the grand final, while the third varsity took home silver.

The Crimson also ranked fifth in the Ten Eyck Trophy with 157 points, two behind Brown (159).

In the top event, Washington distanced itself early, posting a half-length lead by 500 meters. The Crimson were side-by-side with Cal for second, testing the west coast crews through the 1,000-meter mark. The Huskies and Bears started to distance themselves, while Princeton and Brown made a move down the stretch. The Crimson crossed in 5:38.680, two seconds behind Brown. Washington won its fifth-straight IRA title with a time of 5:28.015.

In the third varsity event, the Crimson came out swinging, positioning themselves in second early and maintaining it to bring the silver medal back to Cambridge. Stroked by Dom Glover and coxed by Jack Smith, Harvard was within three seconds of winner Washington. The Crimson crossed in 5:43.194 after holding off Cal, who finished just over a second later.

Racing in the petite final, the Harvard second varsity made a statement early, coming out strong and separating itself from the pack by 500 meters. Northeastern seemed to keep pace, but by the midpoint, the Crimson had outpaced the Huskies by seven seats. Harvard did not relent, holding off a charging Big Red and crossing in 5:42.750 for the win.

The varsity four fell behind early in the grand final and couldn't make up the difference, crossing in 6:35.443 for sixth place.
