ANNAPOLIS, Md. – For the 17th-straight year, No. 5 Harvard men's heavyweight crew took home the Adams Cup with a varsity eight win over No. 11 Navy and No. 8 Penn. This year's edition was no easy task, as the Crimson finished ahead of the Mids by just three feet.
The Clothier Trophy, given to the team who accumulates the most points for all five races, will also come back to Cambridge, as Harvard was ahead of Navy and Penn in all five events. In the varsity eight race, stroke James Croxford and coxswain Jessi Izhakoff led the squad to a 6:02.24 finish, just 0.61 of a second ahead of Navy. Penn finished open water back, stopping the clock at 6:11.94.
The second varsity won by three seats, clocking a time of 6:07.53. Penn was just behind in 6:08.89, followed by Navy (6:11.59).
The freshman eight was the lone blowout, finishing in 6:08.09. Penn crossed in 6:16.24, followed by Navy just behind (6:16.84).
The third and fourth varsities also won by less than three-second margins. The 3V posted a time of 6:12.15, as Navy (6:14.60) was half a length back and Penn crossed after an open-water break. The 4V finished in 6:29.59. Navy was just off the pace in 6:30.93, followed by the Navy 5V and Penn.
Harvard will be back on the Charles next weekend for the Smith Cup against Northeastern.
