LONDON – Harvard heavyweight crew alumni Mike DiSanto '12, Malcolm Howard '05 and Sam O'Connor '12 have been selected to Oxford Blue Boat for this year's Oxford-Cambridge Boat Race. DiSanto will sit in the No. 6 seat, in between Howard (5) and O'Connor (7).
The Boat Race is an annual contest between the rowing crews from Oxford and Cambridge universities. The 2014 version – the 160th Boat Race – will be held Sunday, April 6 at 2 p.m. ET. The event can be seen on BBC and also online.
Howard and O'Connor will be competing in their second-straight Boat Race, winning last year's edition by 1 1/3 lengths in a time of 17:28. This will be DiSanto's first race with Oxford.
While with the Crimson, Howard rowed in the 1V for three years and never lost a race. He helped the Crimson to three IRA titles. Howard also won gold at the Beijing Olympics and silver in London for Canada in the men's eight.
DiSanto – a captain – and O'Connor also rowed for three years in the 1V boat, as DiSanto won Sprints twice and O'Connor once. Both finished their Harvard careers with a one-foot win in the Ladies Challenge Plate at the Henley Royal Regatta.
