Harvard Pushes Past Fisher, 78-51

Seth Towns finished the contest with 11 points, marking his first career double-figure game (Gil Talbot).

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. –
The Harvard men's basketball team (1-1) cruised to an 78-51 decision to Fisher College at Lavietes Pavilion Thursday night in its home opener. Freshman Justin Bassey led the Crimson with 14 points, adding one assist and four rebounds.   

Corey Johnson and Seth Towns also contributed double-figures in the contest, posting 12 and 11 points, respectively. The Crimson forced Fisher into 14 turnovers.

opened the scoring for the Crimson, connecting on a lay-up, but the Falcons were able to take advantage of the first four minutes, leading Harvard 7-4.

Harvard responded with a 15-4 run, as five Crimson players contributed to the rally. Seth Towns capped the run with an open three from the corner. The Falcons answered with six of the next eight points, before Harvard rattled off 11-straight to own a 32-15 advantage at the 3:44 mark. The Crimson contained the Panthers for the remainder of the stanza, leading 41-19 after the first half.

kicked off the second half with a three-pointer off a dish from Bryce Aiken to push Harvard to a 25-point lead. The Falcons were unable to match the Crimson's offense, shooting 37 percent over the first five minutes of the second half, while Harvard continued to widen the gap, going on a 9-4 stretch.

A pair of three-pointers started an 8-0 run from Fisher, bringing the score to within 20, 50-30, at the 13:15 mark. Corey Johnson and Chris Egi countered with seven of the next 12 points as Harvard pushed its lead to 26 points, 59-33, at the half way mark. At the 7:03 mark, Andre Chatfield picked Roger Hamel's pocket and dunked the ball on the break to push Harvard to a 30-point lead, 69-39.    

Harvard continued to dominate, as Fisher would get no closer than 20 as Harvard posted a 78-51 win.

The Crimson return to action on Tuesday, November 22 at home versus Holy Cross for a 7 p.m. tip- off.

Game Notes:  Seth Towns finished the contest with 11 points (his first career double-figure game), also adding 1 assist and 4 rebounds … Corey Johnson added 12 points, his 15th career double digit game and first this season … Justin Bassey posted 14 points in his first collegiate start, marking his first double-figure game… Harvard played all 19 players that dressed, and 13 players scored … Zena Edosomwan led the Crimson in rebounding, for the 24th time in his career … Harvard shot 28-67 (41.8 %) in the 40 minutes of action ... The 51 bench points marked the second-highest total under Tommy Amaker.
