CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Weisner Perez of the Harvard men's basketball team has been honored as the Ivy League Rookie of the Week, the conference office announced Monday.
The freshman posted an impressive week as Harvard faced a pair of opponents on the road at Northeastern and No. 4/5 Kansas, averaging a team-high 14.0 points per game and grabbing 5.5 rebounds per game.
Perez scored a then career-high 13 points at Northeastern in just 12 minutes off the bench, shooting 5-of-6 from the field. The forward followed with another career-game at Kansas, posting a team-high 15 points while shooting 4-of-7 from the field, 7-of-8 at the line and grabbing nine rebounds.
The Berwyn, Illinois product was instrumental in leading Harvard's second-half comeback versus the Jayhawks, tallying 11 points and five rebounds after the break. He hit a pair of free throws to tie the game at 56-56 with 7:35 remaining.
Harvard is back in action Tuesday, Dec. 8 as it takes to the court at cross-town rival Boston University at 7 p.m.
