Harvard Men’s Basketball Invited to 2013 Great Alaska Shootout

The 2013 Carrs/Safeway Great Alaska Shootout will be held Nov. 27-30 (Gil Talbot).

ANCHORAGE, Alaska – Harvard is one of eight men's basketball squads chosen to compete at the 2013 Carrs/Safeway Great Alaska Shootout, it was announced this weekend.

The 36th annual event will feature Harvard and Alaska Anchorage, the host institution, as well as Denver, Indiana State, Iowa, Pepperdine, Texas Christian and Tulsa. The men's tournament will take place Nov. 27-30, 2013 at Anchorage's Sullivan Arena. There is also a four-team women's tournament, which will include Alaska Anchorage, Georgetown, UC Riverside and one team to be announced.
Charlotte captured the 2012 Great Alaska Shootout title Nov. 24, defeating Northeastern in the men's final this season.
Harvard, which earned an NCAA tournament berth last season and has won two straight Ivy League titles under head coach Tommy Amaker, will be just the second Ivy League school to compete at the Great Alaska Shootout, following Dartmouth in 2011.
The Crimson will be making its second regular-season tournament appearance in the last three seasons, as Harvard captured the crown at the prestigious Battle 4 Atlantis in 2011. The Crimson topped Utah, Florida State and Central Florida en route to winning the tournament in the Bahamas.
