Harvard field hockey was picked to finish second in the Ivy League preseason media poll.
PRINCETON, N.J. – Harvard field hockey was picked to finish second in the Ivy League in the league's first ever preseason media poll, the conference announced this afternoon. Harvard received two first place votes, with Princeton taking the top spot in the poll.
Harvard set a school record for wins (13) in 2017, finishing last year 13-4, including a 6-1 record in Ivy League play. The Crimson is 15-1 in its last 16 Ancient Eight contests. Led by head coach Tjerk van Herwaarden, Harvard returns its top four scorers from a season ago, including Longstreth/NFHCA All-American Bente van Vlijmen and reigning Ivy League Rookie of the Year Mimi Tarrant. Seniors Libby Manela and Kathleen Young will captain the 2018 team.
Ranked No. 15 in the Penn Monto/NFHCA Division I Preseason National Coaches Poll, Harvard opens the season on Friday (Aug. 31) with a 6 pm contest at New Hampshire. The Crimson will host Holy Cross on Sunday (Sept. 2) in its home opener at Berylson Field, with the game set to begin at 1 pm. Admission is free for all home Harvard field hockey contests.
