CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – After setting a school record for wins (13) in 2017, the Harvard field hockey team has announced its schedule for the 2018 season. Harvard's slate will feature three games against teams that made the 2017 NCAA Tournament and eight home contests at Berylson Field.
Harvard finished last year 13-4, including a 6-1 record in Ivy League play. The Crimson is 15-1 in its last 16 Ancient Eight contests. The Crimson returns its top four scorers from a season ago, including Longstreth/NFHCA All-American Bente van Vlijman and reigning Ivy League Rookie of the Year Mimi Tarrant. Seniors Libby Manela and Kathleen Young will captain the 2018 team.
Harvard will kick off the 2018 campaign on Aug. 31 with a road contest at New Hampshire before returning home on Sunday (Sept. 2) for its first contest at Berlyson Field against Holy Cross. The Crimson will then head to Maryland for the Terrapin Invitational, first for a neutral site game against American on Sept. 8. Harvard will then play national runner-up Maryland the following day.
The Crimson will play three straight home contests, taking on Northeastern (Sept. 14), UMass (Sept. 16), and opening up Ivy League play against Yale (Sept. 21) before heading to Maine on Sept. 23. Two of the best teams in the region will square off on Sept. 26 when Harvard hosts Boston College.
Harvard will continue its Ivy slate at Penn on Sept. 29, then close out the month with a home non-conference contest against Bryant the next day. The Crimson will round out non-conference play at Boston University on Oct. 7.
The remaining Ivy League slate for the Crimson includes games at Brown (Oct. 5), at home against Cornell (Oct. 13), road contests at Princeton (Oct. 20) and Dartmouth (Oct. 27). Harvard will honor its seniors with its final regular season game at home against Columbia on Nov. 3.
