PRINCETON, N.J. – Harvard freshman forward Kathleen Young has been named Ivy League Rookie of the Week, as announced by the conference office Tuesday, Oct. 6.
Young had a fantastic game Sunday, helping the Crimson top Fairfield, 4-0, with the first multi-goal game of her career. Early in the second half, Young capped a fantastic transition play for Harvard with a one-timer into the back of the cage off a terrific pass from Marissa Balleza. Young put the exclamation point on the day minutes later with her second goal, also assisted by Balleza. Young made a great fake to deke the goalie out of position, clearing the way for her to slip the ball into an open cage.
Young is the first Rookie of the Week from Harvard since Hannah Wellington earned the award last season on Oct. 14. Marissa Balleza is the most recent Harvard student-athlete to earn a weekly honor from the Ancient Eight, as she was named Player of the Week during the last week of the regular season in 2014.
Harvard returns to Ivy League action this weekend, hosting Brown Saturday, Oct. 10 at 1 p.m.
