CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Sarah Finnemore of the Harvard field hockey team has been selected as the Co-Ivy League Rookie of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday afternoon.
Finnemore registered two goals to pace Harvard to its first win of the season as the Crimson downed Holy Cross, 4-0. The freshman found the back of the net in the in the 51st minute to take a 1-0 lead and spark the Crimson offense which scored three goals in the next 15 minutes.
Finnemore has now tallied three goals, the most by a rookie since Noel Painter's eight in 2011. She leads the team in scoring with six points in three games. Finnemore shares the league honor with Georgia Lord of Cornell.
The Norridgewock, Maine native recorded her first career goal and the first point for the Crimson in the 2013 season against Bryant on Sept. 8 at Jordon Field. She became the first freshman to score Harvard's first goal of the year since Caroline McNeil in 2010.
The freshman was also named the COOP Athlete of the Week earlier today for her performance against Holy Cross.
The Crimson travels to New Haven, Conn., to open up Ivy League play and take on Yale this Saturday.
