Abercrombie would be Harvard's first winner of the award (Gil Talbot).
MIAMI LAKES, Fla. – A week removed from being featured on ESPN's College GameDay, Harvard football's Ben Abercrombie has been selected as a candidate for the Capital One Orange Bowl-Football Writers' Association of America (FWAA) Courage Award, as announced on Wednesday.
The Courage Award was first presented by the FWAA in 2002. A select group of writers from the FWAA vote on the winner each year. The requirements for nomination include displaying courage on or off the field, including overcoming an injury or physical handicap, preventing a disaster or living through hardship.
Abercrombie was injured in his career debut as a defensive back against Rhode Island in 2017. He made his first trip back to campus last weekend for the Harvard-Yale game at Fenway Park.
The winner of the award will be included in festivities during Capital One Orange Bowl week and receive his trophy at an on-field presentation.
