Ten Crimson Football Alumni Make NFL Training Camp Appearances

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.—With the 2018 NFL season around the corner, many Crimson football alumni have been getting in on the preseason action. 10 Harvard alumni currently have spots in NFL training camps with hopes of making the final 53-man rosters at the end of the month.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers  

Brate enters his fifth year with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Last season, Brate played in 16 games for Tampa Bay, earning 48 catches for 591 yards and six touchdowns. A standout player while at Harvard, Brate now sits at the top of the tight end depth chart for Tampa Bay.

The Buccaneers open up their preseason schedule visiting the Tennessee Titans on August 18 at 8 p.m.

Ben Braunecker '16

Chicago Bears

Braunecker begins his third season with the Chicago Bears. Last season, Braunecker appeared at tight end in eight games for the Bears. Before joining the pros in 2016, Braunecker finished his career at Harvard with 68 career receptions for 1,168 yards and 10 touchdowns.

In the NFL preseason opener, the Bears fell to the Baltimore Ravens, 17-16, at the NFL Hall of Fame game on August 2.

Minnesota Vikings

Easton enters his fourth season with the Minnesota Vikings, where he has played since 2015 after being traded from the San Francisco 49ers. Last season, Easton made 12 starts with the Vikings. A two-time First Team All-Ivy nominee, Easton played on an offensive line that helped the Crimson secure an Ivy League Championship title in 2014 as well as an undefeated record.

The Vikings host the Jacksonville Jaguars on August 18 at 1 p.m. to start off their preseason.

Anthony Fabiano '16

Cleveland Browns

After playing with the Cleveland Browns in 2016, Fabiano rejoined Cleveland in 2018 in an offseason roster move from the Indianapolis Colts. With the ability to play at both guard and center, Fabiano appeared in five games last season for the Colts, making one start.

The Browns are set to take on the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium on August 9 at 7 p.m.

Anthony Firkser '17

Tennessee Titans

In his first season in the NFL, Firkser signed with the Tennessee Titans in May 2018. After signing a rookie free agent contract with the New York Jets after the 2017 NFL Draft, Firkser also spent time on the Kansas City Chiefs practice squad before ultimately signing with the Titans. Firkser ranks 12th all-time in school history in receptions, ninth all-time in receiving yards, and sixth all-time in touchdown receptions.

The Titans open up preseason on the road against the Green Bay Packers on August 9 at 8 p.m.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Now in his 14th season in the NFL, his second with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Fitzpatrick kicks off the 2018-2019 season at starting quarterback. Last week, the Buccaneers announced that Fitzpatrick will be leading the team to start the season. A year ago, Fitzpatrick led Tampa Bay to victory in two of his three starts at the position, finishing the season with seven touchdown passes and 1,103 passing yards.

Tampa Bay opens up preseason on the road against the Tennessee Titans on August 18 at 8 p.m.

San Francisco 49ers

Back for a second season with the San Francisco 49ers, Juszczyk starts his sixth season with the pros. The fullback closed out the 2017 season with 33 catches for 315 yards, earning him his second consecutive Pro Bowl nomination. In addition to his Pro Bowl recognition, Juszczyk also earned the 2017 Bill Walsh award as well as the 49ers Community Relations Youth Football award. At Harvard, Juszczyk earned Associated Press First-Team All-America honors after closing his senior campaign with 52 receptions for 706 yards and eight touchdowns.

San Francisco hosts the Dallas Cowboys for their first preseason matchup on August 9 at 10 p.m.

Tyler Ott '14

Seattle Seahawks

Returning for his third season with the Seattle Seahawks, Ott enters his fourth year in the league. A native of Tulsa, Okla., Ott appeared in all 16 games for the Seahawks last season. Prior to joining the Seahawks, Ott spent time as long snapper for the Cincinnati Bengals in 2016 as well as the New York Giants in 2015. Appearing as both a long snapper and tight end for the Crimson, Ott finished with 16 catches for 194 yards and four touchdowns.

The Seahawks host the Indianapolis Colts in their first preseason game on August 9 at 10 p.m.

Adam Redmond '16
6-6 | 300 | C
Buffalo Bills

After signing with the Indianapolis Colts as an undrafted free agent following the 2016 draft, Redmond played two seasons with the Colts before signing with the Buffalo Bills in January 2018. Last season, Redmond appeared in four games at center. While at Harvard, Redmond helped to team to three consecutive Ivy League titles and was the co-recipient of the William Paine LaCroix Trophy.

The Buffalo Bills host the Carolina Panthers on August 9 at 7 p.m. to open up preseason action.

Cole Toner '16

Los Angeles Chargers

Toner enters his third season in the pros, his first with the Chargers. After being drafted in the fifth round by the Arizona Cardinals in 2016, Toner spent time on the practice squads for the Cincinnati Bengals and the New England Patriots last season before signing a reserve/future contract with the Chargers in 2018.

The Chargers play their first preseason matchup in Arizona on August 11 at 10 p.m.
