NORTHBROOK, Ill. – Earning accolades for his work away from the gridiron, junior kicker Jake McIntyre has been nominated to the 2018 Allstate American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Good Works Team, as announced by the organization on Tuesday.
The Allstate AFCA Good Works Team® has been one of the most esteemed honors in college football for more than 25 years. The student-athletes who are nominated for this award not only demonstrate a unique dedication to community service and desire to make a positive impact on the lives around them, but they also show tremendous perseverance as well as the ability to overcome personal struggles and come out victorious against all odds.
The team is comprised of 11 players from the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision and 11 players from the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision, Divisions II, III and the NAIA and one honorary head coach. To be in consideration by Allstate and the AFCA for a nomination, each player must be actively involved with a charitable organization or service group while maintaining a strong academic standing.
McIntyre is one of 169 student-athletes nationally to earn the consideration, which includes 26 players from the FCS ranks. Princeton and Penn were the only other Ivy League programs to land a player on the list.
The Orlando, Florida native tied for eighth in program history with 97 points form a placekicker in 2017, making nine field goals and 11 extra points across 10 games. McIntyre was an All-Ivy League second team selection in 2016, and he boasts a career conversion rate of 81 percent. His 82 percent conversion in 2017 ranked in the top-10 nationally.
The final 22 team members will be announced in September after deliberation from a panel of seven former Good Works Team selections, three media members and two administrators.
