CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard senior quarterback Colton Chapple and Southern Connecticut State junior running back Vaughn Magee have been named the New England Football Writers' Gridiron Club of Greater Boston Gold Helmet Award winners for the week of Oct. 1.

Despite playing in a steady downpour at Harvard Stadium, Chapple orchestrated one of the finest offensive performances in Crimson history.  The Georgia native completed 13-of-18 passes for 260 yards and four passing touchdowns as Harvard scored touchdowns on all six of its first-half possessions in a 52-3 win over Holy Cross. Chapple also carried the ball five times for 15 yards and a single score to help the Crimson establish a new modern era record for points in a half (49). Chapple is the second straight Harvard player to be honored with a Gold Helmet after senior running back Treavor Scales won the award Sept. 24.

While Chapple did all of his damage in the first half, Magee saved his best for last. The New York native set an NCAA Division II record for rushing yards in a quarter with 187 of his 297 yards in the fourth quarter of the Owls' 45-34 come-from-behind win over St. Anselm Saturday afternoon. Magee finished the game with 312 all-purpose yards and four touchdowns on 31 touches to help Southern Connecticut State earn its first win of the season.
