CAMBRIDGE, Mass. –
Quarterbacks Collier Winters of Harvard and McCallum Foote of Middlebury are this week’s recipients of the New England Football Writers’ Gridiron Club of Greater Boston Gold Helmet Award for week eight of the 2011 college football

Winters returned to the starting lineup after missing the last four games with an injury, and led the Crimson to a 56-39 victory over Princeton on Saturday. The senior captain was the second quarterback in as many weeks, to tie the school record for passing touchdowns in a single game, throwing for five scores and 405 yards while adding a sixth touchdown on the ground. Princeton drew first blood, but Winters engineered a 69-yard drive in response, capping it off with a 1-yard touchdown run to put Harvard up 7-6. The Claremore, Okla., native recorded his first passing touchdown of the afternoon on the next Crimson drive, finding Alex Brown for a 29-yard connection. Winters opened up the second half with two straight touchdown drives hooking up with Chris Lorditch and Alex Sarkisian for 59 and 16-yard touchdown throws respectively. Winters added two more strikes before the day was done finding Zach Boden for a 17-yard  score and a game-sealing touchdown to Cameron Brate as the Crimson secured their fifth win of the year.

Foote was the main source of offensive production for the Panthers in a 49-43 win over Bates on Saturday, as the sophomore amassed 412 passing yards and five touchdowns against the Bobcats. After throwing for three scores in the first three quarters, Foote produced in crunch time finding Billy Chapman on an 11-yard game-tying score early in the fourth quarter. With the game tied late, the Newton, Mass., native got the ball one last time and drove down the field, connecting on a 10-yard touchdown strike in the game’s final seconds to lift Middlebury to their second victory of the season.
