Summer Baseball Update: Harvard Well Represented Nationwide

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Members of the Harvard Crimson baseball team are scattered around the country this summer with 17 players in action nationwide as part of NCAA-sanctioned wood bat baseball leagues. Several players are putting together solid campaigns against the nation's best as of last week including:

Rising sophomore Jake McGuiggan (Watertown Wizzards, Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League) has appeared in 29 of the teams 32 games and is batting .299 (29/97) with seven doubles, two triples, and homer.

Jeff Reynolds (Wareham Gateman, Cape Cod League) has been featured on the Cape League website and has hit safely in five out of his last six games while upping his average to .315 over his last 54 at bats (17 hits) with four doubles.

Brent Suter (Wareham Gateman, Cape Cod League) won his first career CCBL start and has a record of 2-2 with a 5.06 era.

Matt Doyle (Mystic Schooners, NECBL) is his team's closer and has appeared in 11 games and thrown 16.2 inning without allowing an earned run. He has an eye-opening 26 strikeouts in those innings and has only given up 11 hits.

Marcus Way (Old Orchard Beach Raging Tide, NECBL) has settled into the cleanup role for the Raging Tide with a team-leading two homers in a large ballpark. He is second on the team in runs batted in and has started 24 games.

Joey Novak (Duluth Huskies, Northwoods League) is one of two Harvard players to earn all-star status thus far. Novak is currently enjoying a stingy 1.21 ERA with a 3-1 record in 44.1 innings. He has given up only 33 hits and has struck out 31 against only nine walks.

Sam Dodge (New Bedford Blue Sox, NECBL) is also an all-star this summer as a closer with eight saves in nine opportunities while allowing just three earned runs in 8.1 innings. He has only given up four hits and has struck out nine.

Danny Moskovits (Orange County Pioneers, California Collegiate League) has been contributing as a two-way player both in the infield/outfield and also on the mound. He is second on his team with two homers and, on the mound, he has not given up an earned run in 14.1 innings. In that span, he has only allowed four 4 hits while punching out 20 batters.

Conner Hulse (Orange County Pioneers, California Collegiate League) owns a 1-1 record and has 28 strikeouts in 22.0 innings with four starts in seven appearances.

Peter Kaplan (Riverhead Tomcats, Hamptons Collegiate Baseball) leads the pitching staff in innings with 33.1 and has surrendered just 30 hits and 10 walks with a solid 3.24 ERA.

Steve Dill (Riverhead Tomcats, Hamptons Collegiate Baseball) has appeared as a catcher in 19 games out of his team's 32 and thrown out six would-be base stealers.

Baron Davis (Coppell Copperheads, Texas Collegiate League) has one save and a 2.04 ERA. He has only given up four earned runs in 17.2 innings while striking out 16 batters and scattering 14 hits.

Kyle Larrow (Waimea Waves, Hawaii Collegiate Baseball League) has appeared in 17 of the team's 26 games while collecting 10 hits.

Robert Wineski (Waikiki Surfers, Hawaii Collegiate Baseball League) has 6 hits in 18 at bats with a double. He is also a pitcher and owns a 1-2 record in 21.1 innings.

Jordan Haviland (Waimea Waves, Hawaii Collegiate Baseball League) has had a great summer with a 3-0 record and one save in 18.1 innings while scattering 14 hits and striking out nine.

Jeff Hajdin (Licking County Settlers, Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League) had appeared in 19 of the teams 31 games before suffering a summer-ending injury.

Jack Colton (Martha's Vineyard Sharks, Futures Collegiate Baseball League) has appeared in 25 of the team's 27 games with 17 hits and 10 RBI.
