Baseball Places Two on All-Ivy League Baseball First Team

PRINCETON, N.J.  – Harvard University placed two players on the 2011 All-Ivy League teams in baseball as Max Perlman (Longwood, Fla.) and Jeff Reynolds (St. Petersburg, Fla.) were both named to the first team.

Junior pitcher/first baseman Marcus Way was an honorable mention selection at utility.

Perlman earned a spot after leading all starting pitchers in the league in earned run average with a 1.80 mark. Reynolds, a junior, started all 45 games and batted .301 with 14 extra base hits.

Eighteen players were voted onto the first-team All-Ivy, led by five from Gehrig Division runner-up Penn and four from Rolfe Division champion Dartmouth.

Perlman, a former freshman All-American, threw 60.0 innings in which he allowed just 46 hits while striking out 55. His finest outings came against Yale as he fanned 10, walked one and scattered four hits in a nine-inning, complete-game shutout of the Bulldogs.

Reynolds led Harvard with 163 at-bats and 49 hits, and ranked second in doubles with 11 and RBIs with 19. He finished the season on an eight-game hitting streak and had 14 multi-hit games for the year. His best stretch of the season came in a 10-for-19 spurt against Princeton, Cornell and Northeastern with four extra base hits and six runs batted in.

Way also started all 45 games and led Harvard with 16 extra base hits, six home runs and 21 runs batted in. He led the team in walks (18) and posted a .325 on-base-percentage while also stealing 8 of 12 bases. His season-highlight was a walk-off grand slam against Cornell on April 10 in an 11-8 Harvard win.
