WAREHAM, Mass. – Harvard’s Max Perlman (Wareham Gatemen) has secured this week’s Coca Cola Pitcher of the Week award for his performance against Brewster in an announcement by the league office.
Perlman pitched six shutout innings and left the game with a 1-0 lead. Although the bullpen could not hold the lead, his nine strikeouts and two hits surrendered were enough to earn him this week’s award.
The 6 foot 7 right-hander showed plenty of promise in his first season as a member of the Crimson, earning All-Freshman third team honors. An elbow injury in his first start as a sophomore derailed his second season and much of his junior year, but his success this summer indicates that he has returned to form.
He is also a Cape League veteran. He pitched well enough for the Gatemen in 2008 to be selected as an All-Star alternate before his injury.
Perlman has been dominant this summer. Despite posting just a 1-1 record, he is tied for the team lead with a 2.03 earned run average. In 26.2 innings, he has surrendered just 20 hits while walking five and striking out 23 batters.
