Ferreira Named Ivy League Rookie of the Week

Harvard baseball’s freshman pitcher Andrew Ferreira has been named the Ivy League Rookie of the Week in an announcement made Tuesday afternoon.

Ferreira is joined on the weekly Honor Roll by sophomore utility man Jeff Reynolds, who had a big week offensively for the Crimson.

Harvard split a pair of Ivy League games against Brown while also defeating Northeastern and losing to Boston College by one run.

Ferreira was impressive this week as the freshman lefty posted a .125 opposing batting average against. He no-hit Boston College for his first five innings on Wednesday in the first round of the Beanpot and then no-hit Brown for his first four innings on Monday. Against Boston College, Ferreira struck out seven batters in the first five innings before some tough luck went against him in the sixth inning. Against Brown on Monday, he retired the first 12 batters he faced while picking up his first career win with two strikeouts in 5.0 innings of one-hit relief.

Reynolds hit safely in five of his six games last week and was 9-for-10 in his first three games. All told he hit .600 (6-10) with runners in scoring position and .545 (6-11) with runners on base as he recorded nine RBI and four extra base hits in the week. His best game came against Northeastern as he was 5-for-5 with seven RBI and two stolen bases.
