PRINCETON, N.J. – Harvard Women's Soccer senior
Smith Hunter has been named the Ivy League Defensive Player of the Week, the conference announced today. This honor is the first of Hunter's career.
Hunter played a key role in Harvard's huge defensive effort at No. 22 Columbia on Saturday, helping the team post a shutout in the Crimson's 2-0 win. Hunter played the full 90 minutes and performed extremely well in the matchup, as she led the back line to allow only two shots to reach the net and zero corner kicks to the Lions. Aside from Hunter's phenomenal defensive effort, she added an assist early in the game to help the Crimson get off to a quick 1-0 lead.
Hunter has stepped up this season, proving to be a crucial part of Harvard's back line. In addition to being stellar on the defensive side of the pitch, she has made an impact on the scoring end for the Crimson this season. Hunter has five points on the season, scoring one goal and adding three assists, the first goal and assists of her career.
Hunter takes home the second weekly award for the Crimson this season and the first weekly defensive award.
