The Harvard wrestling team did more to shape me than any class I took at Harvard. During my career it was never difficult to see how the sport helped me and made me a better person. Whether it was giving weekly trips to bond with my parents or developing a strong work ethic, the benefits were always clear to me. While the positives were evident, it was also easy to be bitter about other aspects of the wrestling lifestyle. All the injuries, all the exhausting practices and all the opportunities that wrestling made me passed on felt heavy. However, after my last ever match, once the adrenaline and emotion had come and gone, I was finally able to appreciate just how beautiful a ride it had been. Whatever regrets I had no longer existed. The relationships and lessons that wrestling brought me will stay with me for life. My five closest friends are the other five members of our team who will be walking the stage alongside me. In line with our team mission, Kanon, Josef, Austin, Logan and Tyler have all pushed me to be a better man. We never focused on being the best wrestlers we could be, instead we were pushed to be the best men we could be, knowing that our wrestling goals who be accomplished as a side-effect. In the end, I am confident that we are all leaving Harvard ready to be men who hold themselves to the highest standard.
