Harvard Receives Three Nominations for Inaugural Globies

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard Athletics will be well represented at the inaugural Globies awards event as the Crimson has been nominated for three awards.

The Globies Presented by Mercedes-Benz is a first-of-its-kind sports awards celebration, honoring the best of the New England sports scene, on and off the field. The inaugural event will take place on October 6 at House of Blues Boston.

The Boston Globe sports editorial team will select the award winners with help for certain awards from fan voting.

Rising senior Jimmy Vesey has been nominated for Top College Athlete after becoming the Crimson’s first Hobey Baker finalist in 10 years. Vesey led the nation in goals with 32, was named ECAC Player of the Year and won the Walter Brown Award, given to the best American-born Division I college hockey player in New England.

Both the football and men’s basketball teams have been nominated for Best College Moment after recording historic victories over arch-rival Yale. The football team’s 31-24 triumph over the Elis completed an undefeated season for the Crimson and earned it the Ivy League title outright. The men’s basketball team’s 53-51 victory in the Ivy League Playoff, meanwhile, punched the team’s ticket to a fourth-straight NCAA tournament appearance.
