SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The women's water polo team dropped its final two games of the Aztec Invite. The Crimson fell to No. 13 UC San Diego, 15-7, before dropping a, 20-1, decision to No. 10 San Jose State.
In the first game, UC San Diego jumped out a commanding, 6-1, lead. The Crimson turned it around in the second as both squads found the back of the net twice, but the Tritons went on to score seven goals in the second half to lock up the win.
Jelena Cyr led the Crimson offense with two goals, while Alexis Del Toro, Melissa Balding, Zoe Osborne, Michelle Martinelli and Jillian Dukes each added one score. Defensively, Ariel Dukes had three saves.
In the opening stanza, San Jose State surged ahead, taking a, 5-0, advantage. Shayna Price scored the Crimson's lone goal of the game to cut the deficit to four, but it wouldn't be enough as the Spartans tallied six goals to end the half. San Jose State's offense erupted for nine goals in the second half to secure the win.
Dukes had five saves in the loss.
The Crimson continues its west coast swing Wednesday, March 19 with two games against Whittier and Pomona-Pitzer.
