CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Harvard men's and women's water polo coaching staff recently held a youth clinic at the Charles River YMCA.
Harvard men's and women's head coach Ted Minnis and assistant coach Jessi Wood held instructional sessions for three different age groups, which each lasted about an hour, Sunday. A total of 67 boys and girls between the ages of 6-14 participated in the event.
"The kids had an absolute blast," Aquatics Director/Head Coach at the Charles River YMCA Kristen Powers said. "They loved meeting and working with Ted, Jessi and the three athletes that they brought with them. It is so good for young kids in the sport to have older players to look up to, and they absolutely look up to the Harvard teams."
Current student-athletes Yoshi Andersen '16, Jimmy Field '14 and Ben Zepfel '16 also assisted with the clinic. The trio spent their time in the water with the kids, playing games, working on different drills and answering any questions that the kids had about the sport.
"I really enjoyed working with the YMCA," Minnis said. "The kids were really enthusiastic. While working with them, I hope to share my passion for water polo and hope that at least one will fall in love with the sport. I look forward to working with them again in the future."
