Dukes Named CWPA Southern Division Defensive Player of the Week; Hendrix Gets Rookie of the Week Nod
Ariel Dukes has been named the CWPA Southern Division Defensive Player of the Week three times this year (Justine Agaloos).
BRIDGEPORT, Pa. - Sophomore goaltender Ariel Dukes was named the Collegiate Water Polo Association Southern Defensive Player of the Week, and freshman attacker Charlotte Hendrix garnered her first CWPA Southern Division Rookie of the Week award, the league office announced Tuesday.
Dukes, who earned her third honor of the season, had two assists, four steals and 28 saves in five contests to help the Crimson lock up the third seed in the CWPA Southern Division tournament, and Hendrix totaled nine goals, 13 assists and nine steals in those same five contests.
Dukes recorded one steal and four saves in the week opener against Brown. She followed up her performance by turning away seven shots and assisting on one goal versus George Washington Saturday. In the second contest of the day, the Winter Park, Fla., native had one assist, a career-high three steals and four saves against No. 12 Princeton. On Sunday, the sophomore finished with six saves against Cal State Bakersfield and seven stops against No. 3 Arizona State.
Hendrix began the week with two goals, one assist and three steals against CWPA Southern Division rival Brown on Wednesday night. Then, the freshman delivered three goals, one assist and three steals in a win over George Washington before tallying one goal and three assists later in the day versus No. 12 Princeton. On Sunday, the Santa Barbara, Calif., native turned in a career-performance against Cal State Bakersfield, tallying a career-high 10 points on three goals and a collegiate-best seven assists. She concluded the weekend with a helper and two thefts vs. No. 3 Arizona State
Harvard has now won eight CWPA weekly awards this season. The Crimson has earned three player of the week honors, Dukes has won all three defensive player of the week awards and Hendrix and Yoshi Andersen have both been given the rookie of the week nod once.
The Crimson returns to action Saturday in the CWPA Southern Division Championships at 4:30 p.m. against Mercyhurst before taking on host Brown at 8:30 p.m.
